Sometimes in life we’re confronted by decisions that cause feelings of anxiety and even dread. The more you think about it, the more your head spins! Here’s a few simple tips to help you slow that spin down; to help you think more clearly about the best course of action for you!
1. Shh! Find a place of solitude to sit comfortably. Sit straight, place both feet on the ground—sit outside if possible. Focus on your breath for a few minutes. Slowly envision each inhale, see it with your mind’s eye delivering to you an inner sense of calm. Observe each exhale, see it release tension and slow your thoughts and ideas. Envision your mind as a blackboard and clear it by “erasing each thought” as it arises.
2. Tap the Intuitive. Listen to your heart. Just like first impressions are often correct, so are the first impressions from your heart and soul. Take the time to silence your outer world so you can hear your inner voice. Only within silence can the inner self be heard. Some interpret these impressions as guidance from above, others as guidance from within. Make a note of your feelings and impressions.
3. Your Inner Grandmother. Imagine sitting at a table with a very wise woman, one who has been highly seasoned by life and by experience. Tell her your issues of concern and sit back and listen with your heart and your imagination to the advice she offers. You may be surprised at her response: it could be something you may not want to hear but you need to know.
4. Listen to logic. Make a pro/con list—itemize every possible positive benefit (small and large) associated with your issue of concern, and every possible negative consequence (small and large). Reflect upon this list with an open mind.
5 Talk it out. With someone you trust, someone who knows you very well, one who always has your best interest in mind. Avoid talking to too many people about it—the opinions and advice of too many can steer you off course and confuse the issue, and make you feel like you have to explain yourself, when you don’t. Discuss the issue with someone who values and honors you for who you truly are, not for who or what you may become.
6. Sleep on it. Our conscious mind takes in millions of bits of information while we are awake. Then during sleep, our unconscious mind processes this data into our mental master program. Once we wake up, all that information somehow makes more sense, feeling less “mind boggling” because it’s been processed. If you go to sleep with an impending issue on your mind, often your dreams can provide clues to help guide you toward the best course of action. Remember, an exhausted mind cannot make wise decisions, so sleep on it!
7. Think positive and trust yourself! You are a complex person with a trinity of being. Consider the effect this decision will have upon your mind, your body, and your spirit. Chronic indecision is often a reflection of self-doubt. Learn to trust yourself.
8. Let the past pass. Everything that has helped, hindered or hurt you, and any past or present “failures,” combine to make you who you really are. You are a work in progress, accept yourself and move forward.
9. Let go! Never make an important decision in a hurry. Life is like a card game: never let someone force your hand when you’re not ready to play. Sometimes non-action is actually a form of action. Remember you cannot control everything in life, and some doors are better left unopened. Concentrate upon the best thing for you in the long run, rather than focusing upon immediate outcomes.
10. Get on with it! Listen to your own wisdom with passion, and act with purpose!
Love, Cindy
